Read Between the Lines series
In “Read Between the Lines”, I explore the female form as a fluid expression unbound by traditional outlines. Each line reflects the variety of choices that shape our lives, emphasizing the complexity and individuality of every woman’s experience.
The figures I depict emerge from their backgrounds, symbolizing the unique essence of each person and the inherent beauty of nonconformity. This integration of figure and background speaks to the interconnectedness of identity and environment, celebrating the strength found in embracing one’s true self. Through this exploration, I invite viewers to reflect on their own journeys and the richness of their personal narratives. Each work is named after a phase of life I experienced while creating them: “Emerge, 2020” an empowering time where I felt most confident and growing into myself; “Mindless, 2021” feeling the numbness from the ongoing pandemic; “Lifesaver, 2021” finding a purpose and reason to continue; and “Renew, 2023” finally a restart into reinvention of myself as an artist and person.
“Lifesaver” is a community engagement piece created in response to mental health awareness, inviting participants to share their personal letters, written during their darkest times, convincing themselves not to give up. Featuring 60 anonymous entries, this work embodies collective resilience and the power of shared experiences. Its impact continues to resonate with viewers worldwide, fostering hope and connection in the conversation around mental health.
